Concepts That Click

Statistics is easier when you understand why the methods work. Clear explanations break down the ideas behind the formulas so you're not relying on memorization alone.

A Tutor's Approach

Think of this course as having a statistics tutor available whenever you need one. We'll slow things down, work through examples step by step, and focus on the questions students actually get stuck on.

Learn by Doing

Statistics isn't something you learn by watching someone else solve problems. You'll work through examples and practice problems so you can build the skills—and confidence—to do it yourself.

About This Course

This course is designed to work alongside your first-semester introductory statistics class. It isn't meant to replace your lectures or textbook—instead, think of it as the extra explanation and practice you might get from working with a tutor. Topics are broken into manageable lessons so you can focus on what you need, when you need it. If confidence intervals aren't making sense in class, go to confidence intervals. If you need more practice with z-scores before an exam, start there. You don't have to work through the course in order. Throughout the course, we'll focus on understanding what the statistics mean, choosing the appropriate method, working through the calculations, and interpreting the results—not simply memorizing formulas. Use it to follow along during the semester, review before an exam, or revisit a topic whenever something doesn't quite click.

About Your Instructor

I've spent years teaching and tutoring introductory statistics, helping students work through the concepts that often feel overwhelming in class. With a background in mathematics and physics, I love helping students understand why statistical methods work—not just which formula to use. Over the years, I've worked with many students who were convinced they were simply "bad at statistics." Often, they didn't need to memorize more formulas. They needed someone to slow things down, explain the ideas differently, work through examples with them, and answer the questions that come up along the way. One-on-one tutoring gave me the opportunity to do exactly that. But there are only so many students I can personally work with, and I wanted to find a way to make that same knowledge and support available to more people. That's why I created StatLab and this course. I've taken the explanations, examples, practice, and problem-solving approach I use when working with students and built them into a resource you can access whenever you need it. Think of it as having some of that tutoring support available throughout your semester—even when we're not sitting across a desk from each other. My goal isn't to replace your professor or textbook. It's to be the extra explanation when something doesn't quite click, the worked example when you don't know where to start, and the practice that helps you become confident doing it yourself.
